Office for Legal Complaints publishes 2023/24 Budget, Business Plan and Interim Strategy

The Office for Legal Complaints has published its Business Plan and Budget for 2023/24 for the Legal Ombudsman (LeO), together with an interim strategy for 2023-24.

Building on the progress it made in 2022/23, in 2023/24 the Legal Ombudsman will:

  • Resolve between 7,555 and 8,128 complaints about legal services, and accept between 6,930 and 7,209 new cases for investigation.
  • Use new Scheme Rules that will mean LeO can give clarity to consumers and legal service providers at the right time.
  • Continue to use early resolution wherever possible.
  • Significantly reduce the number of people waiting for an investigation, further reducing waiting times and improving customers’ experience.  Significantly reduce the number of people waiting for an investigation, bringing down waiting times to an average of 45 to 100 days, and improving customers’ overall experience.
  • Monitor, maintain and enhance the accessibility and quality of LeO’s service.
  • Deliver its service on a budget of around £16.8 million: a real-terms decrease which will see a solicitor pay around £8.50 more in levy than in 2022/23.
