In January 2019, Legal Ombudsman proposed to make minor technical changes to its Scheme Rules, issuing a paper for a period of representations in compliance with Section 205 of the Legal Services Act 2007.
These changes were made to remove all mention of claims management companies (CMCs) from our Scheme Rules, in light of the transfer of CMC regulation to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) on 1 April 2019. Complaints about CMCs will be dealt with by the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) from that date.
The period for representations ran for 4 weeks from 2 to 30 January 2019 – the full paper can be viewed here. No responses were received, so the same version was submitted to the Legal Services Board (LSB) for approval as required by Section 155 of the Legal Services Act.
The final version of the rules was approved by the LSB on 28 February 2019.
