Open and independent

We use research and statistics at the Legal Ombudsman. They help us to improve our service, inform our policy and strategy, and help us to share our learning with others.

Publishing decisions

In July 2012, and every three months after that, we will publish a table with the details about every case that's resolved by an ombudsman's decision. This table will contain the name of the lawyer or law firm, the number of complaints they've had, the area of law and whether a remedy has been awarded. The details of every complaint that is resolved by ombudsmanís decisions from 1 April 2012 will be contained in this table.

In addition to this, in any case where our Board decides that it is in the public interest - including when the complainant has been severely affected by a serious service failure - we will immediately publish the details of the lawyer or law firm, and summary of the complaint. We hope that this will help to protect other consumers from experiencing the same problem.

You can find out more about our publication policy, how it will be applied and the reasons for it here (our news page) and here (our consultations page).
