Response to SRA Consultation – LTTF Phase Two of Handbook Reforms

On 15 December, the Legal Ombudsman responded to the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s (SRA) consultation on ‘Looking to the future: phase two of our Handbook reforms’.

This consultation outlined various proposed changes that would reduce the regulatory burden on solicitors in the future. Measures include relaxing requirements about practising addresses, removing the ‘qualified to supervise’ rule, amending the SRA’s enforcement strategy, and allowing individual self-employed solicitors to provide reserved legal services from unregulated businesses.

Our response highlights the need to exercise caution with these measures in order to protect consumer rights, and a commitment to working with the SRA to ensure these matters are properly addressed in implementation.
