Case study 18 – Upfront fee refund

In June 2015, Mr B instructed a claims management company (the introducing CMC) to investigate
potential mis-sold Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) policies. In order to start progressing the case
Mr B paid the introducing CMC an upfront fee of £495. The introducing CMC’s standard terms
and conditions confirmed the upfront fee was “refundable in the event that you do not receive any
redress.”
